How do I Requests a Reimbursement? Any purchase made on the pack's behalf that is budgeted may be reimbursed by turning in a Reimbursement Request Form. The form must have the receipt attached and be signed by a senior leader responsible for that budget item (Cubmaster, Assistant Cubmaster, Committee Chair, Activity Lead).
An expense not in the budget may not be reimbursed without parent meeting approval of the funding resource.
What is May Graduation?
At our May Pack Meeting Lion Cubs, Tiger Cubs, Wolf Scouts, and Bear Scouts graduate to their next rank track. They change neckerchiefs (available at scout shop or can locate used) and receive a new scout handbook (provided by the pack). Bears transition to Webelos rank and change to the tan uniform traditionally in our pack. Contact the Committee Chair if you need help getting your scout his new neckerchief and/or uniform shirt.
The current Webelos step up to the Senior (aka Second Year) Webelos role as our Bears become Junior (aka First Year) Webelos. At graduation they assist the Cubmasters and cheer on their younger pack members. As the senior rank, they are expected to do their best at being role models for the younger boys.
All work at their current rank ends with that rank year. The deadline for reporting earnings at the rank is usually eight days prior to the graduation pack meeting. This includes elective disk beads and arrow points as well as special awards that have requirements specific to rank such as World Conservation award. If a scout has not earned their rank badge by graduation, he will not receive it. This has no impact on his new rank track; everyone starts fresh.
What volunteer hours do we need to track and report?
Pack 455 sponsored goodwill projects are the most work to track and report. To reach our Journey to Excellence (our quality award) goal, we need to submit a report for each project we sponsor. Each report includes the following information:
Date of the project
purpose of the project
the measure of success
the number of scouts involved and the number of hours they gave
the number of scout leaders involved and the number of hours they gave
the number of other youth involved and the number of hours they gave
the number of other adults involved and the number of hours they gave
Pack 455 sponsored projects include Keep Red Pine Green, CBD Food Drive, Bell Ringing, Caroling, Scouting for Food, Eagan Flower Sale, Feed My Starving Children, and occasional others.
Annual Volunteer Segment is awarded at the end of each school year to each scout who has given 12+ hours of service goodwill. Service given is not limited to scout sponsored projects. Serving at church, food shelf, shelter, care facility, assisting a neighbor in need, etc. all count towards your scout's annual volunteer hours. We suggest putting a large sticky note on the inside cover of your scout handbook to jot down service hours throughout the year. In April report your scout's success to your den/patrol leader. At the May pack meeting we will thank them for their efforts and recognize them with the volunteer segment. Senior Webelos who give 12+ hours before they graduate Cub Scouts will also receive a segment at graduation.
Employer Donations in exchange for volunteer hours can benefit the pack. Check with your employer to find out if they will match dollars for the hours you donate. This is one way you can be rewarded and recognized for your service hours not only for scouting, but whatever nonprofit where you give of yourself.
Who decides if my scout has fulfilled a particular requirement for his rank?
Short answer: The parent/guardian acting as the scout partner decide for their Lion or Tiger Cub. For Wolf and Bear Scouts, the reponsibility is shared with the scout leaders. For Webelos Scouts it is the den leader responsiblity. For all ranks, the parent and the scout have a role to play in the decision. Work with your den/patrol leaders to make sure you are doing your best to assure your scout is doing his best to really learn and benefit from this program.
